The Casa Grande High School Lady Gauchos fell into a deep hole early and just couldn’t quite dig all the way back out Tuesday night, losing their Sonoma County League opener at Analy, 56-45.

Taking advantage of early Casa jitters, Analy jumped out to a 19-2 opening quarter lead, but Casa came roaring back, outscoring the Lady Tigers, 20-7 in the second quarter to close the gap to 26-22 at the half.

The second half was almost even, although Analy gradually took charge to pull out the win.

“We haven’t quit all year and we didn’t quit in this game,” noted Casa Grande coach Dan Sack. “I’m really proud of the girls.”

Freshman Stephanie Sack had a huge game for Casa Grande, scoring 22 points and grabbing five rebounds. She hit 11 of 12 shots from the foul line.

Kathleen Heaslet scored seven points and grabbed seven rebounds, numbers that were matched by freshman Gretchen Harrigan.

Casa Grande is now 5-7 for the season.
