A school alert was sent out to parents and school officials after a man allegedly yelled out to an 11-year-old student at Corona Creek Elementary School and asked him to get into his vehicle on Monday afternoon.

The incident occurred at around 3:15 p.m. on the 1000 block of Maria Drive as the boy was walking home from school. After the man yelled “Hey,” and asked the boy to get into his vehicle, the boy began running toward his home, said Sgt. Andrew Urton of the Petaluma Police Department.

The suspect briefly followed the boy, and then turned around and drove toward Sonoma Mountain Parkway.

Police say that the man was a white or Hispanic man in his 40s, with black hair and a black mustache. He was wearing a white, short-sleeve T-shirt, and a blue baseball cap with no insignia or writing on it.

The vehicle was described as a green four-door sedan of an unknown make and model, with shiny, metallic wheels and damage to its left-rear bumper.

Due to the circumstances of the incident and its location to the school, a school alert was sent out to advise parents and school officials to be on the lookout for any similar vehicles or people matching the descriptions provided, Urton said.

Anyone with pertinent information is asked to call the police department at 778-4372.
