Congresswoman Lynn Woolsey has announced that a federal energy and water bill includes $727,000 for the Petaluma River flood-control project.
If passed by the Senate and signed into law by the president, the Energy and Water Development Appropriations Act would designate the money for dredging of the Petaluma River channel and complete the river floodwall near the Payran neighborhood.
The completion of a sheetpile wall and the removal of sediment from the river channel are two of the final steps in finishing the $43 million flood-control project, begun in 1986 following several years of flooding in homes near Payran Street.
