Petaluma Animal Services and Forgotten Felines of Sonoma County are bringing a free spay/neuter clinic to Petaluma on Nov. 14.

The clinic is sponsored by Petco and will take place at the store’s Petaluma location in the Petaluma Plaza shopping center, using a mobile animal care van owned by the county shelter.

The clinic is only for cats, both feral and tame, brought in by city residents.

“It is critical to spay and neuter as many animals as possible,” said Jeff Charter, the city’s animal shelter manager. “This will save countless lives in the litters that will be avoided, especially at this time of year.”

To participate, cat owners and feral cat caregivers must register by phone before the clinic.

Space is limited to 30 cats and it is expected to fill up quickly, organizers said. There is no fee, but donations are accepted.

Future spay/neuter clinics are planned for Petaluma, including one for dogs and others that will offer more appointment spaces, organizers said.

Charter said he plans to hold a spay/neuter clinic every other month for Petaluma residents.

To register for the clinic, call the animal shelter at 778-4396, ext. 6.
