Cinnabar Young Rep presents the musical "The Winter Rose" through Dec. 20 at Cinnabar Theater.

This world premiere musical, based on the Norwegian folk tale "East of the Sun West of the Moon," follows the heroine on a journey of self-discovery, which teaches her that things are not always as they seem.

In the fairy tale, a great white Polar Bear arrives at the heroine's door, offering endless wealth for herr poor family, in exchange for being allowed to whisk her away to unfamiliar lands to face unknown dangers.

Original music, sword fight, and a colorful cast of characters complete the fairy-tale wherein good trumps evil bringing about a happily-ever-after ending.

The book is by Janis Dunson Wilson, Marlies Dunson and Kate Magill. Wilson wrote the music and lyrics.

Performances are Dec. 11-12 and 18-19 at 7:30 p.m. and Dec. 13 and 20 at 2 p.m.

Tickets are $15 general, $10 youth under 18. Call 763-8920 or visit www.cinnabartheater.org for more informtion.

The theater is located at 333 Petaluma Blvd. North.
