The Aug. 24 hearing on the asphalt plant proposal by the Dutra Group has been canceled. A new date for the hearing and possible vote by the county Board of Supervisors has not yet been set, but will be determined later this month, said county planners.
The hearing was delayed because the county's Permit and Resource Management Department must still release a summary report and allow time for the public to comment on it, said a county planner. The report will summarize the changes made between the original and current application. Dutra's most recent proposal involves using trucks or a conveyor belt to move rock material from an existing barge offload site to the proposed plant.
Dutra applied five years ago for the controversial asphalt plant at the site, between Highway 101 and the Petaluma River. The company previously operated an asphalt plant on Petaluma Boulevard South for 20 years.
