Petaluma firefighters responded to a blaze at the Petaluma Hotel on Washington Street Saturday night.

The 8:30 p.m. blaze reportedly started outside of the door to one room in the hotel. A guest at the hotel doused the fire with water and extinguished the fire that was accessible on one side of the door, according to fire officials.

Automatic sprinklers controlled the fire on the inside of the hotel room door, according to fire officials.

The hotel sustained water damage from the sprinkler system on the floor where the fire occurred, as well as below. The total damage was estimated at $5,000.

The fire is under investigation.
