Group seeking better roads to meet with county's transportation boss

<p>A citizen group pushing for increased funding for road maintenance in Sonoma County has scheduled a March 7 “summit” to draw attention to the issue.</p><p>The Penngrove-based group Save Our Sonoma Roads said its evening event will feature a presentation by Phil Demery, the county's transportation and public works director. His talk will focus on the current state and future of the county's 1,382-mile road network, organizers said in a statement.</p><p>The 5 p.m. event will be at Sally Tomatoes restaurant in Rohnert Park. Attendees will be given time to ask questions.</p><p>Upkeep of the county roads has been a hot-button political issue in the past two years, as officials have taken steps to designate just 16 percent of the network for long-term maintenance.</p><p>The moves came in the face of declining state, federal and county funding for roads.
