Fire destroyed a mobile home and burned two acres in Clearlake Thursday night, fire officials said.

A family of four in the 19th Avenue home were awakened by smoke and the crackling sound of fire shortly after 11 p.m., said Charlie Diener, battalion chief with the Lake County Fire Protection District.

They made it safely out before fire consumed the single-wide mobile home, he said. The American Red Cross found the family, who were renters, a place to stay, he said.

The residents reported they first saw flames near the back bedroom, Diener said. The cause of the fire has yet to be determined.

Winds of up to 20 mph fanned the flames into the wildland area east of the mobile home, Diener said.

More than 30 firefighters fought the blaze for two hours before it was extinguished, he said.

“We were lucky the brush wasn't really dry yet,” Diener said.
