Penngrove couple suspected of abusing baby

<p>A Penngrove couple is scheduled to be arraigned Friday on charges of physically abusing their 18-month-old child.</p><p>Lyndsay Patricia Colula, 20, and Jesus Daniel Colula, 26, were arrested Wednesday at their Sturtevant Drive home on suspicion of child cruelty.</p><p>The arrests stemmed from injuries the child suffered, including a broken bone, several fractures, bruises and a contusion.</p><p>The injuries were discovered when the child -- whose gender was not disclosed -- was brought to a doctor for a "well-baby" checkup.</p><p>Sonoma County sheriff's investigators said the couple were sole caretakers of the infant, but did not seek medical attention for the injuries for at least a week.</p><p>"After questioning, neither parent could provide a plausible account for the severe injuries, or why they neglected to provide immediate attention to the baby," Lt. Dennis O'Leary said in a statement.</p><p>After the doctor's visit, the infant was taken into protective custody and transported to Oakland Children's Hospital, where more injuries were discovered.</p><p>-- Clark Mason</p>
