The connection between Petaluma and Uganda tightened last week when Eric Rea, owner of the Athletic Edge Batting Cages, announced that the Petaluma company is donating more than $15,000 in new equipment to Little League baseball in Uganda.
Uganda Little Leaguers captured the hearts of many Petalumans when they competed, along with the Petaluma National Little League, in the Little League World Series.
Taking note of the determination of the Uganda players, who reached the World Series despite a lack of not only equipment, but basic living essentials, Petalumans have rallied to their aid.
Athletic Edge will donate new bats, balls, gloves, travel bags and other gear along with many slightly used bats.
“Most of the kids on the Petaluma National team played fall ball through Athletic Edge,” noted Rea, “and we just wanted to give something back for them to honor their success at Williamsport.
“Our business is baseball, not just for the kids in Petaluma, but for every kid who plays baseball anywhere.”
