An earthquake packing a single hard punch, with a magnitude of 4.3, struck Tuesday morning near Ukiah.

The 8:15 a.m. quake felt like a good jolt, said one Mendocino County sheriff's dispatcher.

It rocked homes and sent pets scurrying for cover, according to reports. A Willits man reported on Facebook that his TV was knocked over.

While quakes can bring a host of 911 phone calls, few people called in after the temblor, the dispatcher said.

The quake, centered about two miles north of Talmage and three miles northeast of Ukiah, was at a depth of about six miles, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

It was initially listed at 4.5, but a review showed it had a magnitude of 4.3, according to the agency.

Officials said no one had reported damage. They encouraged anyone with damage to contact the Mendocino County Office of Emergency Services at 467-6497 or at OES@co.mendocino.ca.us.
