A driver who struck a power pole in the Lake County community of Lower Lake early Thursday morning brought down power lines that closed the road and kept more than 1,000 students home from school for the day, officials said.
Lower Lake High School, Lower Lake Elementary School, Lewis School and Carle High School were closed by the 2:53 a.m. crash, county schools personnel said.
Matthew Brew, 29, of Los Angeles was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving, the CHP said.
