Alden Olmsted has qualified to run as a write-in candidate for Cotati City Council, after he submitted 20 signatures that were qualified by the county Registrar of Voters.
Earlier signatures that he submitted were ruled to be ineligible.
Olmsted has said he wants to bring “some middle ground” to the council.
Notably, he supports Measure U, a Nov. 6 ballot initiative that would ban roundabouts from the city forever. The initiative was driven largely by City Council critics who are unhappy the council approved a downtown redesign that would insert two roundabouts on Old Redwood Highway.
The fate of that plan is up in the air because it was to be funded in part with redevelopment monies no longer available.
The other candidates are Mayor Susan Harvey, 57; Councilman John Del’Osso, 51; Wendy Skillman, 44, an attorney and planning commissioner; and George Barich, 54, a former councilman who was recalled in 2009.
