A Lake County man was in critical condition in a Santa Rosa hospital Sunday after he lost control of his motorcycle on a road outside of Upper Lake Saturday evening and crashed into a power pole.
Ramsey Wade Milks, 39, of Lucerne, suffered a fractured skull and other head injuries in the 5:10 p.m. crash on the Nice-Lucerne Cutoff east of Lakeshore Drive.
In the moments before the crash, Milks had been driving his 1982 Yamaha 500 motorcycle recklessly and at a high rate of speed, according to the California Highway Patrol. On the offramp from Highway 29 he had passed a vehicle illegally and driven through a stop sign at the base of the offramp, the CHP reported.
Heading east on the Nice-Lucerne Cutoff, again at a high rate of speed, his motorcycle drifted onto the unpaved shoulder, where he lost control and traveled down the sloped bank, the CHP said. He and his bike then struck a power pole.
Milks was taken by helicopter to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital.
