A Walnut Creek driver told CHP officers he was headed home early Tuesday when he drove onto Highway 101 going south in the northbound Highway 101 lanes in Healdsburg.
Within seconds of entering the highway at Dry Creek Road in the wrong direction, Jone Turagabeci, 30, caused a collision, reported CHP Officer Jon Sloat.
A BMW driver heading up the highway swerved as Turagabeci's 2009 Honda Civic came at him, said Sloat.
The Honda flipped and the BMW crashed into the center divider.
Turagabeci didn't appear to be injured. He failed sobriety tests and was arrested on suspicion of felony drunken driving before being taken to the Sonoma County Jail.
BMW driver Guang Zhang, 59, of San Francisco was taken to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital for an evaluation of minor injuries and pain.
Turagabeci was convicted of DUI in 2010, Sloat said.
He told officers he'd been on his way home to the Bay Area from a friend's house in Santa Rosa, said Sloat.
