All Petaluma Fire Department units were called out to a structure fire on Second Street early Wednesday morning at around 5:50 a.m.
The blaze, located at 492 Second Street, involved an industrial building and resulted in about $30,000 in damage to the structure and contents of the building, according to the Fire Department. When firefighters arrived after receiving a call from someone at the Texaco Station on Petaluma Boulevard South, they found heavy smoke coming from the main door and the eaves of the structure.
Crews had to break into the building using saws and other tools to gain access, according to officials. Firefighters were also sent to the roof to aid with ventilation.
When they entered the building, firefighters found that the blaze had started in a small utility trailer with gardening tools in it. The fire has been extinguished.
A roughly 40 by 30 foot area was damaged, along with trusses to the roof.
The exact cause of the fire was undetermined as of Wednesday morning.
Rancho Adobe, CAL Fire, Lakeville Volunteer Fire Department, and Wilmar Volunteer Fire Department also responded to the fire.
