Thanksgiving Dinner: It's always good to have a few options at hand in case something goes wrong as you're preparing Thanksgiving dinner. You just never know: The power goes out, your host comes down with a virus, the sewer line breaks, you accidentally overcook the turkey.

Mateo's Cocina Latina (214 Healdsburg Ave., Healdsburg) is serving a special menu from 11:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Cost is $50 per person and menu highlights include butternut squash bisque with Dungeness crab flambe; traditional turkey with local chestnuts, bread stuffing and cranberry salsa; and, for dessert, blue corn tacos with vanilla ice cream, fruit salsa and sea salt. Stark's Steak and Seafood (521 Adams St., Santa Rosa) is open from 2 to 7 p.m., with a special menu for $26 per person, which includes Willie Bird turkey, andouille sausage and mushroom stuffing, giblet gravy and pomegranate-cranberry relish. Call 546-5100 for reservations.
Farm (at the Carneros Inn, 4048 Sonoma Highway, Napa) is serving from 1 to 8 p.m. Cost is $69 for adults and $35 for children under 12; there is no charge for children under 4. Menu highlights include traditional organic turkey, cast-iron corn bread and apple-sage fritters with caramel sauce. A to-go menu is also available; cost is $240 for 6 to 8 people. Artisano this Saturday: As of press time, there were still tickets for Saturday's Artisano event. The Grand Tasting takes place from noon to 4 p.m. at the events center of Vintners Inn. Cost is $75 in advance, and if the event does not sell out, tickets will be available at the gate for $90.
Artisano's Harvest Dinner follows the tasting at 5 p.m. and requires advance tickets. The dinner is limited to just 75 guests. Cost is $75 per person.

Winterblast 2012: One of our favorite nights of the season is coming up Saturday, when South A Street gets all gussied up for the 8th annual Winterblast.
From 5 until 8 p.m., there will be street food, live music, art, all manner of lights, magic, kids activities and more on South A Street and Sebastopol Avenue.
This year, the new Spinster Sisters restaurant will be part of the party.
For the best time arrive early, before it's so crowded you can barely move. I also think it is a good idea to either leave your little dog at home or bring a back or front pack so you can carry your pup once it gets cramped. We speak from experience on this.
Holiday Faire & Quaker Tea: If you're looking for a peaceful respite this weekend, it would be hard to do better than the fifth annual Holiday Faire and Quaker Tea, taking place at Friends House (684 Benicia Drive, Santa Rosa) from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Tea, with ribbon sandwiches, little tarts and more, will be served at half-hour intervals beginning at 10:30 a.m., with limited seating at each time. It's a good idea to purchase tickets in advance at friendshouse.org. If you prefer to reserve by phone, call 538-0152.
The faire includes a large array of items, with more vendors than in previous years. You'll find baked, beaded, canned, quilted, fired, turned and carved items, along with Guatemalan crafts and clothing and the popular Albino Pachyderm Shop.
There is no admission charge to the faire and tea is $20 per person.
“So long, 2012,” love, the Don Giovannis: On Saturday, the Don Giovannis play their final show of 2012 at Fabiani's Ristorante (505 Mendocino Ave., Santa Rosa) from 4 to 6 p.m.
Expect a great party. The band, a Mouthful favorite, released a great CD earlier this year and plans to both provide and have a good time at their last show of the year. The Dons have a big following, including several generations of Italian families, all of whom sometimes take to the dance floor together. Even if you're in a bad mood, Ms. Mouthful guarantees you'll leave smiling. Their Sebastopol-Napoli music is irresistible.
Reservations aren't necessary and there's no cover charge, but if you want to stick around for dinner, you might want to call 523-4800 to reserve a table.

Love Birds at Sophie's Cellars: On Saturday, Rick and Amber Moshin of Moshin Vineyards are the inaugural guests for Sophie's Cellars first “Meet the Winemaker” afternoon.
From 4 to 6 p.m., Sophie's will offer tastes of three Moshin wines for $5, which is 50 percent off the usual price. A glass of wine will be $5. There will be a selection of local cheeses and breads alongside.
Moshin wines will be available for purchase, and if you'd like a bottle signed by the winemaker, Rick will be happy to oblige.
One of the things that makes this a special event is that Duncans Mills, where Sophie's Cellars is now located, is where Rick and Amber first met.

10th annual Holiday Art Sale: On Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Mimi Luebbermann's Windrush Farm hosts its annual art sale, with works by Arann Harris, Dana Hooper, Marta Shannon, Shirla and Jill Mullins, Sandy Wolfe, Noni Edwards, Bolinas Fiber Artisans and others. You'll find woven and knit gifts, paintings, ceramics, jewelry, Windrush Farm wool and, of course, Mimi's famous wood-fired pizzas.
Windrush Farm is located at 2263 Chileno Valley Road in Petaluma. There will be signs pointing the way, and you can call 775-3390 for directions.
The sale takes place rain or shine, so don't let the weather scare you off.
Washi Egg Time: Barbra Friedman's Washi Egg classes have become a popular tradition in Sonoma County, and it's time to sign up if you want to attend one of her December classes.
Currently, three classes are scheduled. The first takes place on Dec. 5 from 2 to 4 p.m. at Patisserie Angelica (6821 Laguna Park Way, Sebastopol). This session includes tea and yummy nibbles; cost is $45 per person.
That same evening, Friedman will be offering a class from 7 to 9 p.m. at Village Bakery (7225 Healdsburg Ave., Sebastopol). Tea and treats will be served; cost is $35 per person.
On Thursday, Dec. 6 from 2 to 4 p.m., Coffee Catz (6761 Sebastopol Ave., in the Gravenstein Station, Sebastopol) will host a session. Cost is $30 and food and beverages will be available for purchase.
“Washi” means paper in Japanese, and the eggs are decorated with handmade mulberry paper, along with beads and other ornaments. The cost covers all necessary materials to complete three beautiful eggs, perfect for hanging from a Christmas tree, incorporating into a wreath or giving to a special friend.
