A middle-of-the-night drive on a dry reservoir bed in Lake County turned dangerous when the vehicle crashed, injuring one man seriously and resulting in the arrest of the driver, who CHP officers suspected was drunk.
A 911 help came in at 12:26 a.m. Saturday, reporting a crash at the Indian Valley Reservoir, which is in a remote area near the eastern boundary of the county north of Highway 20.
Emergency crews found the crash and victims at 2 a.m.
Driver Thomas Rores, 35, of Castro Valley had been driving on a dry portion of the lake bed along the northern shoreline, lost control and the 2008 Toyota 4-Runner overturned, according to the CHP.
Rores suffered moderate injuries and was taken to Sutter Lakeside Hospital. Passenger Brian Sperle, 38, of Hayward suffered major injuries. He was flown by REACH medical helicopter to Enloe Medical Center in Chico.
Two other passengers were uninjured.
