Dungeness crab feed time

The holidays are over, but here in the North Bay, seafood lovers are getting ready to celebrate the season of the sweet, meaty Dungeness crab.

There are a raft of crab feeds coming up this month and next where you can enjoy these sweet crustaceans steaming hot from the pot, with sides of pasta, salad and garlic bread. Here are a few to consider:

The Rohnert Park Chamber of Commerce all-you-can-eat crab feed with pasta, salad and bread from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday at the Rohnert Park Community Center, 5401 Snyder Lane. $50, $60 at the door, $20 for kids 12 and under.

The Tides Wharf will hold a Crab Feed at the restaurant from 5 to 9 p.m. Jan. 11 and 18. $49.95 includes chilled crab, clam chowder, pasta, green salad, bread and sauces. Reservations required: 875-3652. 835 Highway 1, Bodega Bay.

Piner Olivet Charter and Jack London Elementary School will hold a Fiesta Crab Feed at 5:30 p.m. Jan. 19 at the Mary Agatha Furth Center, 8400 Old Redwood Highway in Windsor. $45, including crab with pasta, salad, bread, appetizers, coffee and desserts. To reserve, call 328-7359.

The Petaluma 7-11 Lions Club will hold its annual Crab Feed from noon to 1:30 p.m. and 7 to 8:30 p.m. Jan. 19 at the Veteran's Memorial Building, 1094 Petaluma Blvd., Petaluma. $40 for lunch, $45 for dinner, includes crab, pasta, salad, bread. 763-0564 or 778-7796.

The Rotary Club of Santa Rosa West will hold its 30th annual Crab Feed at 5:30 p.m. Jan. 26 at the Friedman Event Center, 4676 Mayette Ave. $75, includes all-you-can-eat crab and dim sum in honor of the year of the crab. 478-2211.

The AAUW Santa Rosa Branch Crab Feed will be held at 6 p.m. Feb. 1 at the Saturday Afternoon Club, 430 10th St. in Santa Rosa. $50 includes crab, salad, dessert, wine and beverages. To reserve, call 527-6797 by Jan. 28.

The Sonoma County Farm Bureau will hold its 24th annual Great Sonoma Crab and Wine Fest at 5:30 p.m. Feb. 2 at the Grace Pavilion at the Sonoma County Fairgrounds, Santa Rosa. $80, includes wine and hors d'oeuvres reception plus fresh crab with all the accompaniments.

The Russian River Rotary will hold its annual Crab and Pasta feed at 5 p.m. Feb. 9 at the Dutton Pavilion at Shone Farm, 7450 Steve Olson Lane, Forestville. $55, includes crab, wine bar, live music and desserts. 869-0808 or 869-3865.


Celebrate 'Three Kings Day' at Gloria Ferrer

Gloria Ferrer Winery will celebrate "Three Kings Day" with a traditional Epiphany performance at 4 p.m. Sunday at the winery in Sonoma.

Guests can sip a glass of Gloria Ferrer sparkling wine during the performance, followed by a taste of Rosca (the Spanish holiday bread) and hot chocolate.

Tickets on sale Jan. 10 for Pigs & Pinot event

Tickets will go on sale on Jan. 10 for chef Charlie Palmer's eighth annual Pigs & Pinot event at the Hotel Healdsburg on March 22.

During the charitable celebration, pork and wine enthusiasts converge to enjoy the creations of more than 60 wineries and 20 chefs.

This year's special guests include Elizabeth Falkner of Citizen Cake and Orson in San Francisco; Craig Stoll of Delfina Restaurant Group in San Francisco; Jose Garces, a Food Network Iron Chef; and Dean Fearing of Fearing's Restaurant in Dallas.

The 2013 event includes food and wine seminars, tastings and cook-offs, with net proceeds to benefit Share Our Strength's No Kid Hungry campaign as well as local Sonoma County scholarships and charities.

'Wine Down Thursday' at D'Argenzio Winery

If you like pairing music and wine, check out D'Argenzio Winery in Santa Rosa this Thursday from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. During "Wine Down Thursday," the winery features local musicians playing rock, folk, jazz, blues and Americana. Wine, small dishes at St. Francis Winery

For $38, you can give your palate a great ride at St. Francis Winery in Santa Rosa. The winery has an ongoing program of pouring artisan wines paired with small dishes, and reservations are recommended. Times are Friday through Sunday 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m., and Monday and Thursday, 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. The winery is at 100 Pythian Road. For more information, call (888) 675-WINE.


'LaSalette Cookbook' Gourmand finalist

"LaSalette Cookbook," by chef/owner Manuel Azevedo of LaSalette in Sonoma has been named a finalist in the Gourmand World Cookbook Awards, vying among five finalists for the "Best in the World" Mediterranean Cuisine Book.

The Gourmand World Cookbook Awards will be presented in Paris on Feb. 23 during the annual Paris Cookbook Fair.

The large-format cookbook includes 360 photographs and more than 270 recipes from the tradition of Portuguese cuisine as it evolved around the world.
