Attempted robbery in downtown Petaluma

<p>Petaluma police Monday night were searching for a man who tried to rob a downtown clothing store.</p><p>A man walked into Caravan Imports on Western Avenue just after 6 p.m. and demanded a clerk open the register and hand over money, Sgt. Marty Frye said.</p><p>The employee refused and the man grabbed a pair of scissors from a counter and again demanded cash, Frye said.</p><p>The clerk again refused and said police were being called. The man ran out, heading east on Western Avenue.</p><p>The man was unshaven with a brownish-red goatee and wore a black hooded sweatshirt with gray horizontal stripes, a purple undershirt and dark jeans, he said. He was described as white, 25 to 30 years old, 5-foot-8 with a medium to heavy build.</p><p>Several witnesses later told police they saw a man matching that description “acting bizarre” a half-block away on Kentucky Street about 20 minutes before the attempted robbery, Frye said.</p><p>Anyone with information about the attempted robbery can call police at 778-4372.</p><p>Copyright © 2013 PressDemocrat.com — All rights reserved.
