Treating every customer and their project as important is what makes Becky Rowland shine.

An employee of Orchard Supply Hardware on North McDowell Boulevard, her commitment to good customer service has earned Rowland the title of Service Person of the Week.

Rowland was born and raised in Petaluma. She was working for her husband’s construction business when the economy took a turn for the worse and her family needed extra income.

“We needed extra work and since my kids were older, I felt it was time for me to go back to work,” she said.

She’s been working at OSH for nearly four years. Customers can find her in the paint department mixing paints or near the front door greeting customers as they come in.

“It’s been fun,” she said. “I get to do a lot of different things.”

Rowland said she loves helping customers and enjoys the challenge of helping them with their home repair/improvement projects.

“It’s satisfying just helping a person find exactly what they need,” she said. “I get disappointed when I can’t help someone.”

“Becky at OSH is so helpful,” said a regular customer. “Many times she is the greeter when you come into the store. She always makes you feel welcome.”

Do you know a Petaluma service person who offers exemplary service? If so, we want to know about it.

Write a letter or e-mail a nomination to argus@arguscourier.com to tell us why you think your nominee should be considered for the service person award (no phone calls, please).

Nominations for Service Person can cover all aspects of the service industry, but should not include business owners, managers, directors or those in charge of departments. Previous Service Person of the Year honorees will not be considered for the contest.

Five nominees will be named Service Person of the Week beginning Jan. 17. Then, readers will vote on which one should be crowned Service Person of the Year.

This year’s winner will be honored in the Argus-Courier and at the 2013 Petaluma Community Awards of Excellence on March 14.

The earlier a nomination is submitted, the greater chance the nominee has to become a Service Person of the Week.

E-mail nominations to argus@arguscourier.com. Or mail nominations to: Service Person of the Year, Petaluma Argus-Courier, P.O. Box 750308, Petaluma 94975 or drop it by the Argus-Courier office at 719C Southpoint Blvd.
