The regular basketball season ends in exciting and important fashion for the Petaluma and Casa Grande high school girls basketball teams Thursday night.
Petaluma’s T-Girls have already clinched a share of the Sonoma County League championship going into their home court game against Sonoma Valley. What is at stake for the Petalumans is a perfect SCL season and total possession of the league title.
Petaluma goes into the game with a 21-4 record and are an 11-0 mark against league opponents. Sonoma Valley has a less glittering 13-10 overall mark, but has only one league loss (with a game pending against Analy) going into its visit to Petaluma.
Sonoma Valley’s only SCL loss was 56-42 to the T-Girls in a contest played in Sonoma.
A concern for Petaluma going into Thursday’s game is Sonoma senior point guard Kendall Ashe, who hit four 3-pointers and scored 18 points in the first meeting between the two longtime rivals.
Sonoma, for its part, will have to find a way to defense Petaluma’s 6-foot, 2-inch post player Allison Scranton. The sophomore scored 18 in Petaluma’s win at Sonoma and has been a dominant player ever since.
Meanwhile, Casa Grande’s Lady Gauchos conclude their first North Bay League season at home Thursday night against Montgomery.
Going into a Tuesday night game at Santa Rosa, Casa Grande stood at 14-10 overall and 8-4 in league play.
Heading into a Tuesday home game against Maria Carrillo, the Lady Vikings were 10-2 in league and 19-5 overall.
Montgomery handed the Lady Gauchos their worst loss of the season in an earlier game at Montgomery, dominating Casa, 52-24.
