A high-speed crash on Highway 101 south of Petaluma severely injured one man and forced a highway closure for a medical helicopter landing, reported the CHP.
Novato resident Roddy Morales-Andino, 26, suffered possibly life-threatening injuries in Tuesday's 1:10 p.m. crash.
Just before the southbound crash Morales-Andino had been speeding and aggressively passing vehicles and changing lanes, witnesses told the CHP.
As the driver sped passed the Redwood Sanitary Landfill overpass he lost control of his 2010 Volkswagen GTI.
The car slid into the back of a GMC Yukon.
That driver, Sylvie Demoreira, 36, of Novato, was able to move her car to the shoulder. The VW stopped across two lanes.
Officers closed traffic in both directions for the REACH medical helicopter to land and fly Morales-Andino to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital.
The highway was closed for 36 minutes for the helicopter, the CHP said.
