Two of the Santa Rosa Symphony's youth ensembles will join forces for a concert at 3 p.m. May 4 at Sonoma State University's Green Music Center in Rohnert Park.
The Youth Orchestra, conducted by Dr. Richard Loheyde, will perform works by Tchaikovsky, Dmitri Shostakovich, Franz von Suppé and Antonin Dvorak. They will also perform Benedetto Marcello's oboe concerto with oboe soloist Maverick Chen of San Anselmo.
The 18-year-old Chen, a senior at Redwood High School in San Anselmo, was one of the winners of the Youth Orchestra's 2012 Concerto Competition.
The Repertory Orchestra conducted by Bobby Rogers will perform works by Rossini, Mozart, Beethoven and John Kander.
Together, the two orchestras will perform selections from Bizet's “Carmen Suite No. 1” and “Carmen Suite No. 2,” allowing the more experienced musicians to mentor the less experienced.
Tickets are $15 general, $10 for students and seniors. Parking is $5 per vehicle.
