A wanted suspected gang member led police on a chase in Santa Rosa on Friday evening while his infant son and girlfriend were in his car.
Eric Diaz-Pineda, 22, of Santa Rosa slipped away from police after bailing out of his BMW while it was still rolling in the 800 block of Coulter Street in the West End.
His 15-month-old son, properly tucked into his car seat, and 21-year-old girlfriend were uninjured in the incident.
It started when a patrol officer on West Ninth Street looking for distracted drivers spotted Diaz-Pineda driving while talking on his cellphone, police said.
When the officer tried to pull over Diaz-Pineda’s car, he took off, racing down residential streets at high speeds blowing through stop signs at Coulter Street, Decker Street, and Dutton Avenue, police said.
He then circled back to Coulter Street, jumped out while the car was still moving and fled on foot. He was last spotted jumping over a fence, police said. Officers set up a perimeter but could not locate him.
Diaz-Pineda already had three warrants for his arrest, including two felonies.
Now he’s wanted for two more felonies, reckless evading and child endangerment, officials said.
The Santa Rosa Police Department is requesting anyone with information regarding Eric Diaz-Pineda’s whereabouts to call the Santa Rosa Police Department at (707) 528-5222.
