The Casa Grande High School baseball team did it again for the 13th time Wednesday afternoon, beating Windsor, 2-1. The win was the 13th of the season by one-run for the Gauchos. It was also their 17th straight win and ninth straight by a single run.
Zach Shimek drove in the game-winning run with a hit in the sixth inning.
As they have throughout the streak, Casa Grande received an outstanding pitching effort. Senior Nick Marks started and pitched five strong innings, allowing just one unearned run and stopping the Jaguars on two hits. He walked two and struck out three. Sophomore Eric Parnow saved another game for the Gauchos, not allowing a hit over the final two pressure-packed innings while walking just one and striking out five.
Casa Grande managed just five hits off Windsor pitcher Andrew Begley. Two of those belonged to Shimek. Anthony Bender, Richard Lile and Taylor Gomez accounted for the other Casa hits.
Casa Grande is now 18-1 overall and 9-0 in North Bay League play. The Gauchos try to keep the streak growing in Ukiah Friday afternoon.
