Casa Grande High School’s track team competes for the first time in the North Bay League track championships Friday at Rancho Cotate in Rohnert Park. Trails were held Wednesday. Field event finals Friday start at 3 p.m. with running events beginning at 5 p.m.
Casa Grande, last year’s Sonoma County League champion, takes into the NBL meet, several of the Redwood Empire’s best track athletes.
JaJuan Lawson ranks with the Empire’s elite sprinters, and will be competitive in both the 100- and 200-meter dashes.
Austin Eger is an excellent hurdler, who is a strong contender to advance, especially in the 300 intermediates.
Brycen Poarch went to state last season, and should be on his way again in both the long jump and the triple jump. His jumping duels with Maria Carrillo’s Dantae Garcia could be one of the meet highlights.
Poarch has the Empire’s best long jump mark at 22-3 1/2, while Garcia hs gone 21-8 1/2. Garcia has gone 43-9 1/2 in the triple jump to Poarch’s 43-6 1/2.
Caleb Lundquist ranks with the best of the area’s throwers and will be a major point earner for the Gauchos in both the shot and the discus.
Casa Grande has strong performers in almost all areas in the girls meet.
Hannah Barlow brings speed in both the 100- and 200-meter dashes.
Destiny Williams will run strong in the 400.
Saskia VanOmmeren-Egber leads the Casa distance runners, ranking mong the Empire’s best.
Courtney Accurso will challenge in the hurdles.
Casa Grande’s team strength may well be in the relays where the Lady Gauchos have times that rank with the best in the Empire in both the 4x100 and 4x400.
Eva King is among the elite girl jumpers in the Empire, with the best triple jump and strong efforts in both the high and long jumps.
