The victim of a Monday morning crash on rural Point Reyes-Petaluma Road has been identified as a Petaluma man named Abraham Avalos, according to the Marin County Coroner's Office.

Avalos, 23, died after slamming his pickup into a tree west of Novato Boulevard around 12:30 a.m. Monday, the CHP said.

The truck caught fire and was engulfed in flames when emergency crews arrived, authorities said.

Because of the time of the crash and its rural location, the CHP is still looking for witnesses or anyone who may have observed anything unusual in the area in the time leading up to the crash, CHP Officer Andrew Barclay said.

Even a small detail “may help us greatly,” Barclay said.

Anyone with information may call the CHP in Marin County at (415) 924-1100.
