Sonoma Valley police arrested two people Wednesday in connection with a string of commerical burglaries.

Harlan Russell Butler, 44, of Santa Rosa and Guerneville, and his girlfriend, Theresa Kessinger-Mears, 29, of Sonoma Valley, were held, Sonoma Police Chief Bret Sackett said.

Butler was stopped near the Sonoma Marketplace Shopping Center after he was seen by police acting suspiciously and dropping something, Sackett said.

The discarded items turned out to be a crowbar and slingshot, Sackett said. Recent burglaries involved pry tools and a slingshot was used to smash a window, Sackett said.

He was booked on suspicion of possession of burglary tools and violation of probation. Additional charges are expected, Sackett said.

Kessinger-Mears was arrested after a search of her Calle Del Monte house turned up stolen items, Sackett said.

She was charged with possession of methamphetamine.
