McLea's Little League team had an extra swing of inspiration as it played to the Petaluma American Little League AA championship. Before each game, the team posted a photo of teammate Aidano Kern holding up a No. 1 sign in its dugout. No.1 is Kern's uniform number.

Kern couldn't be with the team. He is at the Ronald McDonald House in Boston recovering from limb-lengthening surgery caused by his dwarfism.

The 8-year-old was a well liked and respected teammate who loves baseball.

The inspiration was just what McLea's needed. The team went on a 15-game winning streak, culminating with a 3-2 win in the league championship game. McLea's finished with a 17-2 record.

Members of the team included Kern, Brayden Dorn, Carson Aden, Chase Roth, Dylan Petersen, Emmett Petersen, George Oehm, Jacob Trujillo, Logan Bailey, Oscar Koene, Ryan Cooper and Shane Runyeon.

The team was managed by Gilbert Trujillo with help from coaches Dan Petersen, Nick Marshall and Daryl Couey.

After the season, Kern was chosen an honorary member of the Petaluma American Little League AA All-Star team.
