The 13-under Petaluma Leghorns ended their travel ball season in style by finishing in first place in an 18-team field at the Halloween Havoc Tournament in Galt. The Leghorns went 5-0 over the two-day tournament, winning two pool play games on Saturday and three single-elimination bracket games on Sunday. It was the final tournament for the team that has played 80 games together over the past four seasons.

The two victories on Saturday, over Hard 90 Premiere out of Sacramento and the Bulldog Baseball Club from Vacaville, on Saturday left the Leghorns with the five seed (based on runs against) heading into bracket play on Sunday.

Their tournament was on the brink of ending in their first game on Sunday against the Solano Blast, but they were able to escape a one-out bases-loaded jam in the final inning with the score tied. The potential game-ending run was tagged out on a close play at the plate, sending the game into extra innings. The Leghorns exploded for nine runs in the first extra frame, putting the game

away.

They played another local team, the Petaluma Aces, in the semifinal and won, 9-3, in a hard-fought battle between friends.

The championship game was under the lights in breezy and chilly conditions.

The Leghons trailed for most of the game, and were still trailing by one run late in the game, when they staged a five-run rally in the bottom of the sixth of a seen-inning game to take an 8-4 lead into the last inning, and closed it out for the title in front of a very excited group of supportive parents.

The team is comprised of players from all three Petaluma Little Leagues and who played together for four years. They entered five tournaments this season, and won two of them.

The players are Cameron Downing, Whitaker Ellis, Jack Gallagher, Jensen Tovar, Garrett Freitas, Joe Lampe, Cole Shimek, Cole Powers, Ritchie Norman and Nick Siembieda.
