The Petaluma High School cross country team is peaking for this Saturday’s Sonoma County League meet at Spring Lake Park in Santa Rosa.

The timing is right.

Senior captain Casey Kramer placed first, sophomore Ty Pearson recorded his highest finish of the season in a boys varsity race and Madison Parratt, another sophomore, clocked the second fastest time ever in a girls varsity race on the challenging 2.65-mile Ragle Ranch in Sebastapol last Wednesday, leading the Trojans in a three-way meet against Analy and Elsie Allen.

Kramer’s winning time was 14:35, 32 seconds faster than the next Petaluma finisher, sophomore Edden Yashar, who placed fifth. Pearson, with a time of 15:18, was the third PHS runner to cross the finish line. He was seventh overall and led a run of Trojans finishers as sophomore Dean Douglas (15:42), sophomore Brock Albee (15:45), senior Tillman Schmid (15.57) and junior Lucas DeJong (16:08) placed eighth through 11th, respectively.

Parratt’s time of 17:04 was only 15 seconds off the course record. She placed second in the race while teammate Jessica O’Hanlon finished fourth in 18:35. Trojans sophomores Shyla Barry (19:22), Nora Lindsay (19:33), Alison Roper (19:43) and Alexis Kramer (20:39) placed eighth through 11th.

In the junior varsity race, sophomore Trygue James and junior Chris Odetto finished 1-2 for Petaluma while teammate Dakota Tomas, a sophomore, placed fifth, allowing the Trojans to win the boys JV race. Freshman Whitney Boyd was the top finisher for the Trojans in the girls JV race, placing 10th.

These are encouraging sign for a young Petaluma team striving to turn its inexperience into positive results and catch Piner, Sonoma Valley and Analy as the league’s elite teams this season.

The Trojan boys are defending SCL meet champion. They have won seven of the last eight league meets.
