Petaluma High School’s T-Girl basketball team made a successful journey to Chico for the Chico Invitational Tournament. According to coach Doug Johnson, the trip was successful not only because the T-Girls won two of three games, taking third place, but also for their attitude and conduct during the three-day visit.

“It was a nice trip,” the coach siad. “The girls conducted themselves with a great deal of class, which to me was more important than what they did on the court.”

On the court, Petaluma opened with a 36-33 win over Woodcreek from Roseville. “We didn’t play great, but we played adquately in that game,” Johnson said.

The T-Girls lost their second game to Pleasant Valley, 52-35, before coming back to take third place with a 38-36 win over St. Francis of Sacramento, 38-36.

Joelle Krist hit the game-winning basket with 17 seconds left, but there were a few anxious seconds left when Petaluma fouled at the other end of the court, and it took a missed free throw to clinch the win for the T-Girls.

Johnson praised the consistent play of Krist and Allison Scranton and noted the important contributions made by Jenna Teagarten and the effort provided by Cassie Baddeley.

Now 3-1 on the season, Petaluma plays in the Ukiah Tournament this weekend, opening with Livermore in a 7:30 p.m. game Thursday.
