A former restaurant hostess, Helen Elizabeth Cavanagh greeted hungry diners at Penngrove’s Green Mill Inn for more than 20 years.

Mrs. Cavanagh died on Dec. 24, 2013 at the age of 94.

A native of Penngrove, Mrs. Cavanagh was a great supporter of her husband, Jack Cavanagh Jr., during his 33 years of public service as Petaluma city councilman, vice mayor of Petaluma and Golden Gate Bridge director. In her spare time, she enjoyed gardening.

Mrs. Cavanagh is survived by her children, Patty Valladao of Louisville, Ky., and John W. Cavanagh III of Petaluma; grandchildren; and siblings, Emma Berven of Minneapolis, Minn., Ruth Crizer of Hawthorne and the late Laura Frey.

She was predeceased by her husband, John W. “Jack” Cavanagh Jr.; and her sister, Laura Frey.

Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service at 11 a.m. on Jan. 11 at Elim Lutheran Church, 504 Baker St.

The family prefers memorials be made to Hospice of Petaluma.
