Petaluma police swarmed Ely Boulevard on Monday after a resident walked into a brazen afternoon home invasion. It was one of two robberies reported on Jan. 13, and police are looking for information on the cases.
When a resident returned to their home at 508 Ely Blvd., they noticed the front door had been forced open. The resident was standing in the driveway when they saw the suspect in the back yard carrying an armload full of stolen items as he made his way through a side gate. When the suspect saw the resident, he bolted to his vehicle, a black sedan, and headed south on Ely Boulevard at a high rate of speed.
The suspect is described as a black man, approximately 20 years old, standing 5-foot, 9-inches and weighing 170 pounds. He had short black hair, was clean-shaven and wore a black t-shirt and jeans.
About an hour later, Petaluma police were called to another residential burglary in the 800 block of Crinella Drive. The resident there said the suspect broke in through a side door, and that the robbery had to take place some time between 12:30 and 4:30 p.m., when the home was unoccupied. No suspect or vehicle was seen in that case, and it is still unknown if the two break-ins are related.
Police did not release information on the items that were stolen from either of the homes.
Anyone will information on this case is asked to call the Petaluma Police Department at 778-4372.
