Senior Kenzie Fairow is the Scholar-Athlete for the month of January at St. Vincent High School. Kenzie is the daughter of Mary and Ben Fairow of Petaluma and is currently competing in basketball for the Mustangs. She also participated on the girls soccer team in the fall. During this winter athletic season, Kenzie is being recognized for her commitment and dedication to academics, community, and sport.
Kenzie came to the Mustangs from St. Luke’s Lutheran School in Santa Rosa as a freshman and remembers feeling like she would be the “odd person out” as she did not know anybody at St. Vincent. But upon reflecting back on that year, Kenzie states that those feelings were immediately gone within the first few days of school. She absolutely loves St. Vincent High School and has shown exemplary citizenship on campus in being both a mentor and ambassador for the school. Coach Jim Fagundes says Kenzie is all about “team” and unselfish play. This speaks well of her integrity and character both on and off the court.
After completing the first semester of her senior year at St. Vincent, Kenzie currently has a 4.17 cumulative GPA. She has embraced the school’s motto of “enter to learn, leave to serve” by accumulating over 263 hours of community service volunteering with St. Luke’s as an assistant basketball coach and helping out at Sack’s Thrift Store. After reflecting back on her high school career at St. Vincent, Kenzie says her most rewarding experience has been learning the values of community in school and that relationships build community. Kenzie hopes to attend either Loyola Marymount, St. Mary’s College, or the University of Portland in the fall. Although undecided as to what major she will pursue, she just wants to find a field of study that she can “help people.” .
