The body of a man found in a pile of waste at Sonoma County's main dump Wednesday has been identified as Matthew Nasholm.
The 39-year-old man was believed to be a transient, according to the Sonoma County Coroner's Office.
Workers unloading a garbage truck early Wednesday afternoon spotted the top half of the body and called law enforcement.
There was no obvious sign of violence. An autopsy was scheduled for Friday and Sonoma County sheriff's detectives were investigating.
Dump officials said it was possible the body came in with a load picked up in the Healdsburg, Windsor area, based on the timing of the truck's arrival at the facility.
Officials said it isn't uncommon for people to take shelter in a dumpster.
The main landfill is on Meacham Road, near Cotati.
