Stabbing turns out to be drunken accident

A man who police initially thought was stabbed Sunday night turns out to have cut himself on a window at his residence on Ely Boulevard South, according to police.

Petaluma Police Lt. Tim Lyons said that a 38-year-old man who originally reported being stabbed at about 8:30 p.m. on Feb. 9, was actually involved in an altercation with an unknown subject outside his home in the 900 block of Ely Boulevard South.

Highly intoxicated, Lyons said the man tried to break into his house, after his roommates locked him out. He reportedly cut his wrist on a broken glass window.

"He was intoxicated and thought he was stabbed," said Lyons. "But in reality, he just cut himself."

Lyons said the case is case is still under investigation.
