Casa Grande High School's Erika Mihalca and Petaluma High's Michelle Larsen are both headed to the state girls wrestling championships after Mihalca won and Larsen finished second in last weekend's North Coast Section championships.

Mihalca won the 131-pound title by pinning three straight opponents, stopping the top two seeds in her weight class in her final two matches. She pinned second-seeded Rebecca Busch of Castro Valley in the semifinals and then stopped No. 1 seed Erica Sotelo of Albany for the NCS championship. The wins upped her overall record to 25-3 for the season.

Petaluma sophomore Larsen defeated Andrea Castanon of Concord in the second period in her first match and then wrestled her way into the finals of the 235-pound class by pinning No. 3 seed Joanna Mack of Castlemont in the second period.

Larsen lost to No. 1 seed Vickie Espinoza in a tough finals match by pin in the second round. Espinoza is undefeated against girls opposition. Larsen, now 21-2 on the season, has lost only to the Rancho Cotate standout in girls competition.

"I couldn't be more proud of her," Petaluma coach Denny Plyler said of Larsen. "She has had a great season and is great under pressure."

The state tournament will be Feb. 28 through March 1 in Visalia.
