Penngrove man killed in crash identified

The Sonoma County Coroner's Office on Friday identified the man killed in a solo-vehicle crash near Penngrove.

Steve Carney, 60, of Penngrove, was killed Thursday afternoon in the crash on Old Redwood Highway near Adobe Road.

The CHP said his Nissan Altima ran off the road just after 4 p.m. and hit a tree. He was taken to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

He was not wearing a seatbelt, the CHP said.

Officer Jon Sloat said Friday that alcohol was being investigated as a factor in the crash.
