3M Petaluma to close plant

3M employees will either relocate or receive counseling to find other employment, according to 3M spokeswoman Jacqueline Berry.

St. Paul, Minn.-based 3M (NYSE: MMM) is a $25 billion international company. It acquired Optical Sciences Group in 1982. Originally founded in San Rafael by scientists in the vision-care field, OSG expanded into films for graphics and displays, electronics, security, manufacturing and transportation industries.

The company moved to Petaluma in the year of its acquisition by 3M.

The plant currently occupies 82,000 square feet on six acres at 1331 Commerce St. in Petaluma.
