Leghorns lose district opener

In the first game of the District 5 Tournament, the Petaluma Leghorns American Legion team lost to Napa, 6-2. Petaluma will play Fairfield tonight at 6:30 p.m. in Fairfield at Laurel Creek Park.

Petaluma struggled offensively, and had its first scoring opportunity in the fourth inning. Anthony Bender singled, but was thrown out at home plate by Napa's left fielder on a Weston Bryan single, for the third out.

With two outs in the sixth inning, Petaluma rallied to score two runs.

Ryan Huag walked and Bender singled for the first base runners of the inning. RJ Busse and Bryan hit back-to-back RBI singles to plate Huag and Bender, getting the Leghorns on the scoreboard.

Petaluma was held scoreless the rest of the game. Brandon Haggerla threw a complete game, but took the loss.

The Leghorns were led offensively by Bender who went 3-for4 with three singles.
