Suspected gift card thief arrested for beating teen

A 19-year-old man suspected of stealing $22,000 worth of Meadow School fundraiser gift cards in April was arrested again Friday evening for allegedly beating up a 16-year-old at the Petaluma Skate Park.

According to police, Petaluma resident Zach T. Fortune — arrested with two other men in connection to the gift card theft in the spring — approached the teenage victim in the park on July 5 and began punching him in the face. He reportedly head-butted the younger teen and threw him to the ground. Fortune fled the area but returned an hour later. Police said he approached the victim for a second time and struck him in the face repeatedly before leaving the Skate Park.

Police later found Fortune at the park, where he admitted to assaulting the teen. He was booked into Sonoma County Jail. The victim went to Petaluma Valley Hospital where he was treated for a cut to his lip and an abrasion to his left eye.
