Tough weekend for Petaluma Little League teams.

It was a tough opening weekend for Petaluma teams in Section 1 Little League All-Star tournaments. All three Petaluma teams lost on the opening weekend and face elimination as they begin play this week.

Petaluma Valley's Major League team of 12-year-olds, playing in Dixon, lost its opening game to Alameda on Sunday and plays to stay alive in a 5:30 p.m. game tonight against Vacaville Central. The Valley needs to win tonight, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday to take the Section championship and advance to Division play.

The Petaluma National 11-year-old team won its opener in Mill Valley, beating Davis, 11-1, but lost a heartbreaker to Mill Valley Saturday, 8-6. The Nationals face Davis again tonight in an elimination game, and must win four and a row to win the Section championship.

The Petaluma Valley 10-year-old All Stars won their opening section game in Alameda, 7-4, but then lost on Sunday to Mill Valley, 10-2. The Valley plays again Tuesday night against the winner of tonight's game between South Oakland and Napa National. A win Tuesday will put the Valley into the championship game against Mill Valley on Wednesday, but the Petaluma team will have to defeat Mill Valley twice to claim the section championship.
