Two sought in apparent Petaluma mugging

Petaluma police were seeking two suspects in an apparent mugging in west Petaluma early Sunday morning.

The victim, whose name wasn't released, was treated at Petaluma Valley Hospital for a head wound he said he received when he was attacked by two strangers on Fair Street near Western Avenue.

The man told police he was walking along on Fair Street about 3 a.m. when two men approached him, struck him on the head and stole a small amount of cash. The suspects ran off toward Western Avenue.

A family member who was already en route to pick the man up found him and drove him to the hospital, Sgt. Andrew Urton said. He was treated and released from the hospital.

The suspects were identified only as 18 to 19 years old each, one black and one Latino and both clean shaven.
