Seven months after celebrating her 100th birthday, Jennie Mary Bologna died at her Petaluma home on Aug. 15, 2013.

Mrs. Bologna was born in Pittsburg on Jan. 23,1913 to Giuseppe and Melchiora Russo. She grew up in a family of four girls. Of the four sisters, two passed away in their mid 80s: Angelina Leardini (Martinez) and Josephine Cardinalli (Monterey). The oldest sister, Francis DeVasio, is 105 years old and lives in Concord.

In 1924, the family moved to San Francisco's North Beach district where Mrs. Bologna met the love of her life, Vito Bologna at the North Beach Playground. In 1933, she married Vito and raised their two sons, Victor and Joseph. Their marriage lasted 66 years until Vito's death in 1999.

During their careers, the Bolognas owned and managed retail fish markets in the Bay Area. They were active members of Sons of Italy and the Italian Catholic Federation. Mrs. Bologna moved to Petaluma more than 20 years ago.

Mrs. Bologna is survived by her two sons and their wives; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren.

A funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 22 at St. James Catholic Church, 125 Sonoma Mountain Parkway. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Petaluma, 416 Payran St., Petaluma 94952.
