Crews free trapped driver in Petaluma Highway 101 sports car crash

A Ford Mustang heading south on Highway 101 in Petaluma Monday afternoon flipped and landed on its roof on the highway, trapping the woman driver inside, reported the CHP.

The car's roof was crushed down to the top of the driver's seat, which had partially protected the driver, said Petaluma fire Battalion Chief Phil Sutsos.

Firefighters popped the door off and freed the woman, who was rushed by ambulance to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital with moderate injuries, according to initial reports.

The 12:48 p.m. highway crash was between the Highway 116 exit and Petaluma Boulevard South.

The Mustang reportedly hit an embankment and flipped, and landed in the slow lane.

The crash backed up traffic extensively and traffic was directed around the wrecked vehicle.
