Police: Body found in Petaluma creek may be that of transient

Authorities on Friday had not yet identified the remains of a man found in a Petaluma creek bed on Thursday and believe he may have been a transient, given the setting in which he was found.

The man, believed to have been dead for several days, was located near several homeless camps in Willow Brook Creek on the north end of town, not far from Redwood Highway east of North McDowell Boulevard, police said.

He was found by a dog walker, Lt. Tim Lyons said.

There were no obvious signs of foul play, though results from an autopsy conducted Friday were not available, authorities said. The man's body was badly decomposed, which sometimes obscures evidence.
