The Petaluma Fire Department received 33 medical and 67 fire or other emergency calls from March 4 through March 10. Here are some of the calls.

Tuesday, March 5

3:29 p.m. — Units headed to Ely Road for a report of an accident. One patient was taken to the hospital.

4:12 P.M.— Units rushed to Caulfield Lane for a report of an accident between a vehicle and a bicycle. They found a man sitting on the sidewalk with an injury on his leg. He was taken to Petaluma Valley Hospital.

10:14 p.m.— Firefighters were dispatched to Stanley Street to respond to a report of an accident. They found a driver who had crashed into a parked car and apparently tried to flee the scene on foot. He was held by a neighbor until police arrived. The car he was driving had moderate front end damage. The other car had moderate rear end damage. A bottle and the odor of marijuana was found in his car. He was taken to the hospital.

Wednesday, March 6

7:07 p.m. — Firefighters went to Highway 101 South to give aid at the scene of an accident. The driver of the car had struck a big rig trailer, causing moderate damage to the big rig and major damage to the car. Other occupants were able to get out, but the driver's pant leg was stuck. Two patients were rushed to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital for trauma services.

Thursday, March 7

10:36 p.m. — A vehicle accident at 1420 East Washington Street resulted in an injury and required the Fire Department's response.

5:27 p.m. — Units were called to 60 Vallejo Street for a report of a cooking fire. They found a one-story house with light smoke coming from the front door. The living room was full of smoke and there was a fire on the stovetop in the kitchen, which a firefighter put out.

Friday, March 8

6:44 a.m. — Firefighters rushed to 5341 Old Redwood Highway for a report of a rubbish fire under a bridge. They found heavy black smoke coming from under the bridge and went to investigate. A wooden structure where transients lived was up in flames. It was extinguished. No cause was determined for the blaze.

6:54 p.m. — Responders went to 525 Williams Drive for a report of a chimney fire. They found a one-story house that had smoke coming from the chimney and someone on the roof spraying water into the chimney with a garden hose. Firefighters extinguished the flame.

Saturday, March 9

3:09 a.m. — Firefighters rushed to 1522 Petaluma Boulevard North for a report of a rubbish fire in a field. A homeless encampment was on fire, making about a 40 by 40 foot patch of flame. It was extinguished and no cause for the fire was determined.
